2009 Event Forecast

Event Forecast – What to Look for in 2009

Doom.  Despair.  Stormy weather.  These are words that we will be leaving behind in the year 2008 as we begin a new year full of hope for a bright event forecast!  In 2009, event planners and designers alike will be challenged to produce events with a creative twist that fit within tightened budgets but that also follow the hottest motifs in event design.  This year, DPC’s talented design team will be focusing on doing just that with the following leading trends in mind:

• Organic: An "earthy" vibe with yellows, greens and touches of blue along with raw, eco-friendly elements such as mosses, vines, and wood. Metallic accents combined with this style give an extra pop to the design.

• Urban Chic: A darker, contemporary edge created by purple, plum and rose hues along with shimmering elements such as crystals.

• Tranquility: The soft tones of this trend include creams, grays and blues. Texture from seashells, sand, driftwood, stones and other items create a modern and tranquil feel.

• Global: Bright colors, rich textures and world influences inspire this trend, which features jewel tones such as golds, blues, fuchsias and reds and items detailed with beading and embroidery.

• Chinoiserie. A French interpretation of Chinese style, using pink-toned reds, purples and greens in Asian patterns and silks.  Animal prints can be combined with this style for a funky edge.

Regardless of the style of your next event, planning a special occasion with this myriad of details is no easy task.  To help ease the stress of planning your next event, DPC has the following tips for starting with your best foot forward:

DON’T let time get away from you…the earlier you start the planning process, the more likely you are to secure your preferred venue and vendors and to develop a successful event.

DO establish a budget!  Have dollar figures in mind before you delve into the details.  This can help you create the most “bang for your buck” without having unrealistic expectations

DON’T be afraid of new ideas!  Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone just a bit this year by trying something new and different to keep your event fresh…you and your attendees will be pleasantly surprised with the result !

DO hire an Event Planner (Destination Planning, of course)!  DPC can help you to generate great ideas, evaluate those ideas, design your event by creating décor plans, layouts, and logistics, create an overall plan and work that plan, coordinate multiple activities such as transportation, group excursions, meals, etc. and finally evaluating your event at the conclusion to arm you with tools for your next event!

With the above tips and trends in mind, we hope you are geared up to start planning your next event!  The staff at Destination Planning wishes you a happy and prosperous 2009 and looks forward to working with you in the coming year!
